Project Information

In the southern part of Lake Garda lies the charming little village of Borghetto, near Valeggio sul Mincio. It is here that the Ranft Group has completed the development of an extremely interesting hydropower project, which is currently awaiting final approval from the Veneto region. The entire power plant will be installed underground, so that once completed, the structures will have virtually no perceptible impact on the environment. The project utilizes two existing waterfalls and an existing canal, which have been used to date to overcome the natural elevation differences in the watercourse.

The plan calls for the horizontal installation of a Kaplan turbine with a rated capacity of approximately 1.15 MW. The power plant will be fed by the Mincio River’s spillway. The Mincio, in turn, is the only natural outlet of Lake Garda, whose flow is regulated by the dam near Salionze, built in 1950. As a result, water volumes can be reliably estimated throughout the year and are guaranteed to remain constant.

The license allows for an average output of 700 kWh. The expected average annual output is estimated at 4.5 million kWh. Based on the new Italian Renewable Energy Act, the draft of which is already available, the power plant is to receive a feed-in tariff of 0.11 EUR per kWh for a period of 25 years.
